Although this year we have visited many places in our country<\/a>, we didn't wrote about a place that we wanted to visit for a few years now, a place which impressed us very much: The Prince of Wales's Guesthouses in Transylvania <\/a>, in Valea Zalanului, one of the most famous places where you can stay in Romania.<\/p>\n

How these houses, from a village with only 100 inhabitants, became so famous and recommended around the world, including by BBC?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The answer is simple: thanks to Count Kalnoky, Prince Charles' friend, who took the prince on a longer walk, over the hills, from Miclosoara (his residence) to the Zalan Valley.<\/p>\n

Probabil va intrebati: ce e atat de special la aceasta zona din Covasna? In primul rand natura salbatica si faptul ca in\u00a0 acest satuc totul este autentic si poti intra in contact cu traditiile locale.<\/p>\n

Charles chose several abandoned houses that were brought back to life without having stirred their charm in any way, he kept their traditional specificity- all the rooms are furnished exclusively with antiques from the Transylvanian area, and the paintings and some of the furniture are chosen by the prince himself.<\/p>\n

It is true that the comfort level is high, the houses are no longer like in the old days in the countryside, but the property is not a luxurious holiday resort. The rooms are not equipped with radio or TV but you can find books everywhere and even a journal of the local fauna and flora in which all visitors can note what animals and plants they saw during their stay here.<\/p>\n

What we liked very much here that you can rest in peace on the sunbeds in the yard without being disturbed by cars, noisy neighbors or other tourists. Everything is quiet and invites you to contemplate nature and to find yourself.<\/p>\n

Can you stay in the room where the prince is staying when he comes to Romania?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The answer is yes, you can. In fact, the room no. 2 in which Prince Charles stays when he visit Romania is also the most popular of all and the most beautiful. What we liked enormously in his room was the vintage office, at any moment you expect an English nobleman with impeccable calligraphy to sit down and begin to write a letter that, at the end, he will seal with a red seal as in the movies. \nWhat's special about these houses is that you can find (where you don't even expect) an object of the Prince of Wales- a hat, a letter, or a signed portrait, a book he read or the diary of flora and fauna in which he also wrote, which makes the experience a very special one.<\/p>\n

Everything is special and the traditional combines with the nobility vibes in a perfect melange.<\/p>\n

What activities can you do in Valea Zalanului?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Daca va cazati la Casele de oaspeti ale printului Charles din Valea Zalanului trebuie sa mergeti neaparat la muzeul din sat unde veti fi intampinati de cel mai cumsecade si hatru ghid, domnul J\u00f3zsef, care a fost vanator si padurar la viata lui, a fost in razboi si are in tolba o gramada de povesti si anecdote. Veti putea vedea la muzeu o gramada de obiecte si fotografii vechi, mare parte din colectia domnului J\u00f3zsef, stranse si expuse de nepotul sau care se ocupa de muzeu si veti afla si povestile fiecarui obiect.<\/p>\n

The village is one with few inhabitants, most of them over 60, so it's very quiet and you can walk freely without being disturbed too often by cars, you can take rides with carts or you can go to picnic in the glade in the village and if you are brave enough you can go to observe bears in their natural habitat, accompanied by someone from the Guest Houses.<\/p>\n

You can also walk through the forest and go to the mofette, a wooden room where the gases from the ground are released- you can do the test with an open flame to see the gas level.<\/p>\n

If you are not in the mood for a walk you can stay in the yard to participate in various workshops such as those of cooking kurtos kolacs (a local dessert) or carving in wood. We took part in the workshop for making Szekler cake and it was a memorable experience, we liked it very, very much.<\/p>\n

Food<\/strong><\/p>\n

And if it came to food we have to tell you that here you can serve traditional food, made from local ingredients. One drink we served for the first time was cumin palinca, which we had never heard of before, very flavorful and special.<\/p>\n

Social involvement<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dac\u0103 va bate gandul sa faceti o vizita aici, trebuie sa mai stiti ca atat casele de oaspeti ale Printului de Wales, cat si cele ale contelui Kalnoky din Miclosoara sunt businessuri sociale in care profitul este reinvestit in fundatiile lor, ce sprijina oamenii si dezvoltarea \u00een mediul rural.<\/p>\n

We want to visit again this place in the future, it has become one of our favorites throughout the country, there are many sights to visit and activities that you can do, maybe we will come back with a few recommendations in a future article.<\/p>\n
